I am a graduate student for Columbia’s Masters in Social Work program with a minor in International Social Welfare. I am well aware of the needs that are here in the United states on many different levels but I am also aware of the global needs all around us. Which, in my opinion many get ignored. We take a lot of things for granted here in the United States, electricity and water being two big examples. I believe that if I can do so much here as a volunteer, former educator for early childhood education and Social Work, imagine what I can do over there to help these families and children.  For me this trip to South Africa as a volunteer in a HIV/AIDS orphanage,is the stepping stone to something much more bigger.
